Lean Construction:
A New Paradigm For Managing Capital Projects

Industry Workshop - Day 1  (Monday, 16 July 2007)
Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center - Room 103

Instructors:  Greg Howell and Glenn Ballard, LCI

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This one-day seminar is specifically designed for people who manage projects and are dissatisfied with the results achieved from current practice. While our focus is on construction, the system presented has worked in a variety of project settings that require designing and making unique products to order. These projects always include designing the "product" and its delivery process. Uncertainty and complexity are often high and time short.

We suggest that

  • Designers, contractors, and suppliers considering the use of Lean principles send two representatives: a senior executive, such as the manager of operations; and a person very close to the work, perhaps a design leader, site superintendent or foreman, or fabrication shop manager.
  • Owners will benefit by having facilities and/or procurement managers and their construction managers attend.
  • Suppliers to the industry will discover new ways to improve their products and services.

After the seminar, attendees are often interested in learning more and applying lean to their projects.  Then, they can choose to join LCI to support further research, including participation in implementation, or they can begin implementation on their own or with consulting support.

Note:  No one has yet requested it, but we will immediately return the seminar fee to anyone who feels s/he has not received the expected value from the seminar.
